BIOGRAPHY

Brought to you courtesy of Post 14, this page needs no explanation for hardcore rally enthusiasts. Henri Toivonen was the darling of the British rally fans, having won the Lombard RAC twice, the Audi Sport once and the Manx International once. This is a small tribute to a driver with a big heart and a deep well of natural talent - a true genius behind the wheel of a rally car.

Henri was shy, crazy, honest, funny, exuberant, confusing, gentle and above all, very unpredictable, all rolled into one - a man tortured and haunted by both personal problems and ill-health. Yet all this aside, he inspired an unswerving loyalty in the people he worked with and the fans who followed him all over the world, and it is this loyalty as well as his undoubted immense talent and skill that still endears us to him to this day. Henri Toivonen still holds the record for being the youngest ever winner of a World Championship Rally.

Henri lost his life in an accident on the Tour de Corse in 1986, when his Lancia inexplicably plunged down a ravine and exploded. His co-driver, Sergio Cresto was also killed.
