In Memoriam (echoes of a friend)

My memories of you have never gone;
I could not bury them beneath the years.
So now they rise, bright as the Fenland dawn,
and I remember your smiles and tears...

Your tears were falling like the rains of earth,
they were the storms and roses of the Hampshire spring.
How could you have known that from your birth
the joy and happiness your life would bring?

You could not stay with us - you had no choice;
returned to dust, leaving family and friends behind.
Yet still I heard the echo of your voice,
found smiles and tears and roses in my mind...
