About The Award

The Paul Warwick Memorial Trophy, is what used to be the Autosport award for the National Competition Driver of The Year. The award is now so-called, because the Warwick Family, in order to preserve Paul's memory, funded the purchase of that beautiful trophy. The original award would surely have been won by Paul in 1991 for his performances in the British F3000 series.

Autosport's National Competition Driver award is a recognition given to a driver competing successfully in the front line championships held in Britain; Touring Cars, Formula Three and now from 2002, ASCAR. These three series encompass top level single seater, saloon car and stock car racing, in one of which the winner of the award will have excelled.

Paul was himself an Autosport Award winner as back in 1986, he scooped the Club Driver of the Year accolade for his double championship wins in the Junior FF1600 category. Strangely enough, he beat his much more experienced brother, Derek to an award by eight years. Derek Warwick became British Competition Driver of the year in 1992 for clinching the World Sports Prototype Championship for Peugeot.
